Product Details
The Pfaff Quilt Expression 720 SE gives you a large work area, strong fabric control, and tools made for detailed sewing and quilting. You get the original IDT dual-feed system. You also get nearly 10 inches of space right of the needle. Plus, you get over 400 built-in stitches.
You can use it for layered quilts, clothing, home décor, and decorative stitching. Its colour touch screen, automatic features, and free-motion options can help you work with more control.
Key Features at a Glance
You may find the Quilt Expression 720 SE a good fit if you quilt often. It works well for home décor projects. A good choice for garments with many fabric layers. Its large sewing space gives you more room to guide quilts, batting, and wide projects without crowding the needle area.
The Original IDT™ dual-feed system moves the top and bottom fabric layers together. This can help you keep seams aligned when sewing patchwork, slippery fabrics, or layered quilt pieces.
You also get three free-motion modes for quilting, darning, and thread painting. The machine drops the feed dogs automatically after you choose a mode, which reduces setup steps.
The machine has 428 built-in stitches, including utility, decorative, quilting, and maxi stitches. You can sew stitches up to 9 mm wide and 6 mm long. You can also edit or create 9 mm stitches with the Stitch Creator™ feature.
Its colour touch screen measures 3.5 inches diagonally. You can select stitches, view settings, and use the built-in help information from the screen.
A sewing machine offers digital speed control and automated features. These include thread tension, needle positioning, cutting, knee lift, and bobbin sensing.
The Special Edition model includes standard feet and quilting tools. It also includes an exclusive accessory kit with five extra presser feet. These feet support techniques that may otherwise require separate purchases.
Fabric Handling and Quilting Performance
The integrated dual feed, called the IDT™ System, moves the top and bottom fabric layers together. This helps reduce shifting when you sew quilt tops, backing fabric, or several layers with batting between them.
You can use the included 1/4-inch quilting foot with IDT™ for piecing. The dual feed helps seams stay aligned, which matters when you join long rows or work with small patchwork pieces.
IDT™ can also help with slippery fabric, heavier cotton, and fabrics that tend to stretch. It does not replace careful pinning or seam preparation, but it can help the fabric feed more evenly.
The machine has three free-motion modes that lower the feed dogs for multidirectional quilting. Use a free-motion foot and a steady, controlled speed for even stitches.
The automatic feed dog drop removes a manual setup step. You can switch back to regular sewing and restore normal fabric feeding when you finish quilting.
The electronic knee-lift raises the presser foot hands-free. It helps you reposition fabric. It also suggests checking pressure for thick layers.
You get nearly 10 inches (250 mm) of workspace between the needle and the machine body. This open area gives you more room to manage rolled quilt sections and bulky batting during piecing or quilting.
Stitches and Creative Design Tools
The Quilt Expression 720 SE includes 428 built-in stitches for utility sewing, quilting, buttonholes, decorative work, and lettering. You can adjust stitch width up to 9 mm and stitch length up to 6 mm on compatible stitches.
Maxi Stitches sew 52 mm-wide patterns on quilts, bags, and home projects. They add bold designs without embroidery equipment.
The machine adds side-to-side stitch motion, enabling wider decorative patterns and techniques beyond standard straight-feed sewing.
With Stitch Creator™, you can alter a compatible built-in stitch or build a new 9 mm stitch pattern. You can change individual parts of a stitch, then save the result for later use. This gives you more control when a standard stitch is close to, but not exactly, the look you want.
Creative Signature tools let you refine stitches by adjusting density, position, mirroring, repeats, and tapering for shaped lines.
Use stitch sequencing for ordered, repeatable decorative patterns, with patchwork and twin-needle settings to ensure safer stitch selection.
The machine includes PFAFF’s exclusive stitch techniques, including floating stitches, ribbon stitches, and stacking stitches. Floating stitches create a raised-looking effect by leaving parts of the decorative thread less attached to the fabric surface.
Ribbon stitches thread narrow ribbon to create textured trim on garments, pillows, and decorative quilt sections.
Four sewing fonts enable stitched labels and personalised borders, using stabiliser on light or stretchy fabrics for clear lettering.
Convenience, Threading, and Precision Controls
You use the 3.5-inch colour touch screen to choose stitches, adjust settings, and view sewing information. The screen supports the machine’s 428 built-in stitches, including utility, decorative, and wide Maxi stitches.
Digital speed control lets you limit the maximum sewing speed for detailed work. You can also use the start/stop button instead of the foot control when you want steady hands-free sewing.
For free-motion work, selecting one of the three free-motion modes automatically lowers the feed dogs. This avoids manual feed-dog changes when you switch from regular stitching to quilting, darning, or thread painting.
The built-in needle threader eases threading the needle; follow the marked path and ensure proper tension guide placement.
The machine automatically adjusts thread tension for most fabrics. It also offers manual options for specialty threads, thick seams, or decorative work.
The bobbin thread sensor warns you when bobbin thread runs low. Wind bobbins evenly and use bobbins made for this machine, since poor bobbin winding can cause uneven stitches or thread jams.
Use the correct needle and install it properly. Replace bent or dull needles quickly. This helps prevent skipped stitches, fabric damage, and needle breakage. It matters most on thick quilting layers or seams.
Use the straight stitch plate for precise seams on lightweight fabric; its small opening supports fabric. Use only centered straight stitches—avoid zigzag or sideways needle movement to prevent needle breakage.
Included Feet and Special Edition Accessories
The Quilt Expression 720 SE includes core feet for garment sewing, piecing, quilting, and decorative work. Its exclusive accessory kit adds five specialty feet for precise edge finishes, trims, zippers, and appliqué.
You receive IDT-compatible feet for common sewing tasks, including the 0A standard foot, 1A fancy-stitch foot, blindhem foot 3, and zipper foot 4. The IDT system feeds the top and bottom fabric layers together, which helps you sew matched seams and reduce shifting.
For quilting, the machine includes a 1/4-inch quilting foot for IDT and a straight stitch plate. Use the quilting foot for consistent seam allowances when piecing blocks. Fit the straight stitch plate for straight stitching on fine fabrics or when you want added support around the needle.
The included Sensormatic buttonhole foot 5A makes buttonholes based on your selected button size. You also get a manual buttonhole foot, a free-motion foot 6A for quilting or darning, and a maxi stitch foot 8 for extra-wide decorative stitches.
The Special Edition’s exclusive accessory kit adds five bonus feet beyond the standard set, giving you more creative options without the need for separate purchases. These include a Narrow Edge Foot for IDT, Invisible Zipper Foot, Piping Foot, Couching/Braiding Foot for IDT, and Open Toe Appliqué Foot for IDT, providing extra versatility for everything from precise finishing and professional-looking zips to decorative braiding, piping and appliqué.
