Freehand Machine Embroidery Gift Cards with Sarah at Barnyarns Sew Centre
Location: 24 Barker Business Park, Melmerby, HG4 5NB
Date: November 26th 2025
Time: 9am- 12.30pm
Hosted by textile artist Sarah Becvar, you’ll create a collection of
elegant Christmas cards using a freehand machine embroidered appliqué
technique, stitching pieces of fabric directly onto card blanks. This is
a wonderful way of using up your scraps of fabric and an inexpensive and
personal way of making special cards for all sorts of occasions - you’ll
possibly never buy a greetings card again!
With 34 years experience of practising the technique Sarah is delighted
to share her experience throughout this workshop starting with an
informative demonstration and passing on many tips in order to make your
journey into freehand machine embroidery as smooth and enjoyable as
possible. After the demonstration Sarah will assist with the setting up
of your machine and provide you with time to practise the technique
before starting your project. Sarah will offer plenty of guidance
throughout the workshop so that you leave with the confidence to
continue and explore the technique further at home.
Please bring your machine along with an embroidery foot and, in order to
save time, wind your bobbin with a white thread. In order to sew
freehand the feed dog must be lowered on your machine, please contact
Sew Centre if you have any concerns or wish to borrow one of their
machines. Thread, materials, cards and envelopes will all be provided.
Whether you’re totally new to sewing or have tried the technique before,
this workshop is suitable for all skill levels.
Our showroom is just minutes from the A1 at Melmerby. We have free on-site parking, full disabled access, and will be offering complimentary drinks and snacks throughout the day.
